Day 2: Beach day!

March 31, 2009

picture-151We awoke to another gorgeous day on the island and decided to spend most of our time on the beach reading and enjoying the sound of the waves crashing onto the sand. I finally got to try out my new striped bikini, which I was very happy with. But, once it struck 4PM, we hopped up and snagged a seaside view at one of the tables on the patio of the hotel to sip some happy hour wine and munch on appetizers. Yum. After dinner and a quick stop at our room we made our way back out onto the beach to enjoy the beautiful sunset. I got to indulge in wearing my bright white jeans with yet another striped item. This time, it was a lightweight sweater, which I paired with my go-to black blazer. As soon as I hit the sand I quickly rolled up my jeans and spent the rest of the sunset dancing around in the sand and doing cartwheels—my favorite.

Day 1: Coronado Island

March 30, 2009

dscn9627-polaIt was in the mid-70s our first day on the island—thank goodness—so I opted for a short, swingy skirt and a sheer, off-the-shoulder top (shown above). It was still fairly breezy at times, so I grabbed my favorite red, flowery head scarf that I bought years ago in Paris and used it to keep my fly-aways in place.picture-32And, here are some fun snapshots to share with you all. Our day was spent wandering around The Hotel Del Coronado, where my parents spent their honeymoon night 35 years ago, and exploring Old Town in San Diego. All in all, a lovely first day in the sun!

Girl About Town: Coronado Chic

March 30, 2009

Hello from sunny California! As many of you know I am on vacation until Wednesday, but wanted to share my fun trip with you all, so I will be posting daily photos of summery outfits, my family, and pretty scenery for the next few days or so.

I must say that this vacation has come at the most opportune time, since right now is quite a transitional period for me regarding work and my career path. But the changes are positive  and I am looking forward to the future. With that said, I have been doing a lot of thinking about things I want to do but haven’t done. And so, on this trip, I decided to start small and tackle one of the smaller goals. One of them being becoming gutsy enough to approach strangers on the street or subway who are dressed well and ask to take photographs of their outfits. My problem with this is that sometimes I become shy in these situations. So, I decided that the only way to make this happen would be by leaping head first and just doing it.

Today I took the plunge. I was standing in line at Starbucks in Coronado Island and saw this adorable girl dressed in a lightweight, white summery dress with a cute fitted, navy blazer and a gold, vintage looking belt. I thought to myself, “how many times have I chickened out of taking some girl or guy’s photograph when they are wearing something drop dead gorgeous?” It was now or never. So, I walked up, handed her my card and asked if I could take her picture. Lucky for me she was very sweet and was extremely obliging. Voila! I did it!

I am now determined to force myself to do this each time I see a fantastic outfit, so stay tuned for more “About Town” photographs. In the meantime, here is the lovely girl from earlier. It was shot quickly, but I hope you can see and appreciate what I saw.

Ready for fun in the sun!

March 27, 2009

In the words of Ron Burgundystay_classy01

Well, I finally arrived in sunny Southern California! Earlier today, I frantically wrapped things up at work, then headed out to the airport and hopped on a plane. And, before I knew it, six hours later, I was hugging my parents hello. Such a wonderful feeling. For those of you who don’t I will be in San Diego until Wednesday, but will be posting lightly on Style Pill and Budget Fashion Report throughout my trip, so don’t go too far! Check back in tomorrow and next week to see photos of my various warm-weather outfits—including my new, cute striped bikini—scenery shots of beautiful SD and loads of fun family candids. Until tomorrow! SPxx

Hi hi! Guess what I bought today?! Yep, you’re looking at it! My very own striped bikini—and and you know how I love me some stripes—found at H&M, which I will promptly be putting on the minute I hit the beach in San Diego later this week. I can not wait. I am leaving Thursday afternoon to go meet up with my parents and we are going to celebrate my Dad turning 60 and my parents 35th anniversary! Anyway, I was so inspired by my lovely purchase that I created a beach-friendly outfit around it…click here to see! (Disclaimer…Sadly I was not able to find my suit online, but luckily Top Shop had a similar one!) Happy Tuesday! SPxx

Tinna.

March 23, 2009

img_2861My friend M just emailed me and told me that his friend Tinna was photographed for the very cool blog, facehunter. Aren’t her sequined leggings genius? And that scarf! For anyone who loves ruffles (me!) this is love at first sight. I am amazing at how she managed to combine tassles, sequins and ruffles all in one look without overdoing it. Well done. And, thanks to M for sharing! SPxx

There is something about Ashley Olsen’s red pouting lips that is so child-like yet provocative. Loving it. Wish I could pull off red lipstick like that…

Playing catch up.

Hello, my Loves. So, this has been quite the busy week and I feel as if I haven’t had much time to myself or to post many things, so my apologies! Anyway, a while back I had mentioned that I was going to interview the very talened fashion designer Yigal Azrouel and that it was to appear on the awesome blog, The Daily Obsession. Well, due to the craziness of the past few days, I haven’t even had time to crosslink to it and share it with you all! So, here it is!

Dapper in denim

March 19, 2009

3119overdenimwebIt’s official. I need a distressed denim jacket. Recently I posted about how I loved the idea of using one as a layering element, and now, seeing how it is used in this photo…well it pretty much seals the deal. Let the search begin! SPxx

P.S. This man is so handsome, don’t you think? Love everything about his look, really.
