Lady in red.

April 30, 2009

First off, I want to say thank you for your positive feedback regarding my new do! I am having a lot of fun with it and can style it all different ways. It looks cute brushed forward, to the side and even pinned back with a bobby pin.

Anyway, I mentioned earlier that I did a little photo shoot at Chelsea Piers. Well, here it is! The reason for it is my friend Hattie, founder of the company, Save the Date(ing), is throwing an awesome singles dating event tonight at this cool gallery in Chelsea and I needed to figure out what to wear. Hattie suggested we have a little fun and photograph my chosen outfit. I immediately opted for this red number, which is my favorite and is from Anthropologie.

I also wanted to show how you can easily dress up or dress down an outfit just by changing your accessories. So, you’ll see two different looks…one more casual and one more dressy. I decided to wear this white blazer with black flats to give the bright red dress a more casual look and then slip on some nude patent leather pumps to “chic it up” a bit. Anyway, the event is tonight at 7, and will be a tasting of single malts. Yum! So stay tuned for my report back on how it went, and if I met any cuties! My Love Affair With Menswear.

April 17, 2009

2209rlromweb1Romney Leader—Associate Fashion Editor,

The incredible Garance Dore.

As I was perusing all my favorite blogs, I came across these incredible shots from The Sartorialist and Garance Dore, which I just had to share with you. I have loved menswear for quite some time and it seems now, more than ever,  this is its time to be in the spotlight. I think what I love the most is the slightly androgynous look that comes out of a woman wearing men’s clothing. It is such a unique challenge, to pull it off in a way that you still look sexy and like a woman versus just a woman in a man’s clothes. It sounds contradictory, and it is very tricky. However, when done well, the results are pretty fantastic.

The last image is of Garance herself, in an articule that Refinery 29 did on her, regarding street style. The photos of her are amazing. To see more, check it out here!

What do you think of menswear on women? Do you think it is sexy o do you prefer more feminine accents, like ruffles and bows? Do share, I would love to know your thoughts! SPxx

Rain, rain, go away!

April 6, 2009

Happy Monday! It’s raining in New York today, so here is a little pick-me-up photo for those of you living in the east. Don’t you just love her whole low-key, west coast vibe she has going on here? I am loving her color combination with the green, purple and blue and how it looks shot against the backdrop of a sandy beach and lovely palm trees. Wish I was there!

Dapper in denim

March 19, 2009

3119overdenimwebIt’s official. I need a distressed denim jacket. Recently I posted about how I loved the idea of using one as a layering element, and now, seeing how it is used in this photo…well it pretty much seals the deal. Let the search begin! SPxx

P.S. This man is so handsome, don’t you think? Love everything about his look, really.

Red tights.

March 12, 2009

I have loved Dallas Shaw‘s work for quite some time now and find all her prints so cute. I especially love her fashion prints. And don’t you love this one? Those shoes are pretty sweet, too. I recently blogged about red tights, and now I think I really need to put my money where my mouth is and just buy a pair for my very own. Stay tuned for more of Dallas’ work! Spxx

P.S. More lovely yellow items on this cute blog.

Handsome fellas.

Parisian pretty on Cupcakes and Cashmere

February 6, 2009

Photos via Cupcakes and Cashmere

Joanna from A Cup of Jo recently wrote a post about how to dress like a Parisian woman. She even interviewed Garance Dore, the amazing Parisian street-style photographer. I must say, Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere nails it here with her awesome blue and white top. I love everything about her look. The stripes, the shirt, the nails, the purse, the shoes, and of course the headband. So cute. But, how does she get it to stay put on her head? I recently just bought one like this but it makes my hair poof up—ridiculously so—on either side! Oh well, guess I will just keep fiddling with it!

It’s a wrap.

Isn’t this a great look? The addition of the scarf wrapped around the outside of this monochromatic, slightly manly looking jacket, gives it just the flair it needs to become more interesting and unique. I have a couple jackets with waist ties and think that tomorrow I will experiment with a scarf wrapped round the outide of a basic jacket. My favorite part: How the ends of the scarf are tucked neating into the belt. So ingenious. What do you think of this look, dear readers? Spxx

Day and Night: The Maxi Dress

January 29, 2009

I was inspired by a look I saw in the most recent Lucky magazine, where they layered a long maxi dress with a blazer and turtleneck. I became intrigued with it and decided to create two looks—one for day, one for night—based around one dress. Here’s what I came up with! Enjoy! SPxx
